I take good care of my teeth. Perhaps it's because I was plagued with too many cavities as a child, or because I have nightmares about my teeth rotting and falling out, but regardless my gums are healthy. And apparently, people with healthy gums are at less of a risk for heart disease than those who suffer from periodontal disease. What's more, taking care of periodontal disease, whether with antibiotics or the removal of rotten teeth, can ease the hardening of arteries that are the major problem in heart disease. It's not really clear why the mouth has such an impact on the health of the heart, but it's interesting. What do you think?

1. This is an unbelievably important finding and has great public health implications.
